Coerced "Ear ArT"
Utilizing various types of 3D body scanning technology to create a ergonomic and custom fit ear piece, Coerced serves as an investigative study of the human body as well as a contextual piece of art. Along with this bespoke art piece, an artist statement was created as well.
To start eFit 3D scanners were used to scan my own ear and canal. I began by developing differently shaped inserts that would fit at different depths of the ear in order to find the right fit.
Fusion 360 software was used for this project due to its ability to work with complex shapes in its sculpt environment mode, necessary for working with such an amorphous body part.
Inspired by Surrealism, Coerced's form serves as a reminder of everyday manipulation and coercion we undergo through our everyday lives and how important it is to think for ourselves.
Along with an artist statement, a 3D printed display for gallery purposes was created as well.
