Hello, my name is Alex.
I am a cook currently living and working in the California Bay Area. By education, I am a designer. Born and raised in the Atlanta area. I studied at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design with a concentration in product development. As a designer, my job was to understand people. I found creative solutions to unique problems through a user-centered approach.
Professionally I have worked in an array of creative fields. As a student, I apprenticed under furniture maker Kendrick Anderson. Afterward, I worked as an intern at Creature LLC, an award-winning design firm in the Atlanta area. During this time I also worked simultaneously as a photographer for the College of Design at Georgia Institute of Technology while completing my education. After my graduation, I went on to work for the Demant Grill and Furniture company as a designer, fabricator, and photographer. All of this was predicated during my earlier years of school spent washing dishes and learning how to cook.
In the last few years, I have readjusted the course of my career. Brought on by hindsight and an insatiable desire, my focus now is back in the kitchen where I plan to continue my path towards becoming a chef. In school, I was taught how to think and approach things differently. My education has allowed me to step back and really understand what it is I am trying to solve and how I am going to achieve it. This has allowed me to approach the creativity of my food from a different mindset, one that I believe is both innovative and methodical.
Currently, I am working as a Commis at Lazy Bear in San Fransisco. When I am not cooking my other interests include drawing, photography, traveling, woodwork, snowboarding, hiking, and foraging.
